a new lingerie bag, for man!

I sewed something a little unexpected:
a pouch to carry men's underwear!

To make it as masculine as possible, I used some suit fabric in grey with a subtle blue plaid,
but I added a flowery pair of boxers (in Liberty of London!)

Over the years, I have made many lingerie bags, for ladies:

1-linen and lavender bag, 2- laundry bag,
3- mes dessous bag. 4-green bag,
5-  linen/mushroom bag, and 6- linen/hedgehog bag.

So this one is definitively different, a lot simpler.
I also did not line it to keep it from taking too much space.
I used French seams so there are no raw edges inside,
it is actually quite neat, and very light.

(with a little lavender bag)

Once again I used the same technique from Sotak Handmade
to complete the bag,
I love making the drawstring part this way....
which you have seen previously on
my beach bag and the the dala horse bag:

I like it so much that I might make one for myself,
(with a different applique, of course!)
even if the wool was harder to sew than cotton.

a blue dala horse bag

Just before Christmas, I saw the Dala Horse patchwork block from Moda Bakeshop ,
and I knew I had to make one!
To make it less Christmassy and more all season,
I made mine in blue

just like Miss C.'s horse that my sister sent her from Dalarma, Sweden.

I sewed it in linen and solid cotton,
following the directions from Moda,
I made the small version:

it is a pretty easy patchwork, but quite striking
with the solid blue and the texture of the natural linen.

I sewed some border around the block,
and made a little bag out of it,
it has been my favorite way to make little bag/pouch lately.

a little apres ski vignette

This weekend we had our first real snow of the season,
a good 10 to 12 inches!
I love looking at the snow,
sledding and playing in it,
but not so much skiing!

But I had fun setting up this cute skiing vignette,
with a sweet embroidery, some small wooden skis
and of course a cup of tea with cookies.

The embroidery pattern is again from Les Brodeuses Parisiennes
(they now have an etsy shop, so easier to get their patterns!),
the same serie that I used for my little Amsterdam houses.

Nothing like drinking hot tea under a blanket
and looking outside to a snowy backyard:
Everything looks prettier covered in snow....

a sweet sew illustrated card

I am starting out the year slowly with a easy little project:
a sew illustrated card.

I have really enjoyed doing a lot of sew illustrated projects over the last 2 years,
like the pincushions

the baskets

and the many mug rugs....

This year, I received this book from Minki Kim for Christmas:

more inspirations and more little sewing!

I sewed these little flowers on linen with purple thread (lighter than black)
and a mix of print, so little fabric is needed!

The finish appliqued is then machine stitched it to a watercolor card
with hand quilting thread and a large needle
(that I reserved for sewing on paper)

The perfect happy first project of the year!

some little orange cakes

It is the traditional time to eat la galette des rois,
unfortunately my family cannot eat it as
it is almond based.

So instead I made us some little orange cakes:

It keeps the color and the shapes,
it tastes deliciously and oranges are in season!

Here is the recipe:
(translated from grams to ounces!)

4.25 oz of butter
7 oz of sugar
3 eggs
3 tbsp of milk
7 oz of flour
1 1/2 tsp of baking powder
1 orange

Zest half of the orange, and press the whole orange.
Cream the soften butter with the sugar with the zest for a few minutes,
add the eggs one at a time, then the milk.
Mix the flour with the the baking powder together,
add half of it to the previous batter, then the orange juice,
and finally the rest of the flour.

Bake for around 20-25 minutes at 350.
Cool and decorate with a little powder sugar.

Over the years, I have made some more traditional king cakes for Epiphany:

Brioche

and of course la galette des rois:
(without almonds)

But I like to visit the local French baker
for a slice of the traditional one,
as I am the only one that can eat it!

(with a little donkey trinket)

Happy day!

Bonne annee 2019!

I would like to wish you and your family
Happy New Year!

My mom made me this cute embroidered sachet full
of lavender from her garden.
The pattern is from les brodeuses parisiennes,
we both love their work!
You might notice that the lady wears the same dress
than I wear on the picture on the corner.....

Happy sewing!
