some little orange cakes

It is the traditional time to eat la galette des rois,
unfortunately my family cannot eat it as
it is almond based.

So instead I made us some little orange cakes:

It keeps the color and the shapes,
it tastes deliciously and oranges are in season!

Here is the recipe:
(translated from grams to ounces!)

4.25 oz of butter
7 oz of sugar
3 eggs
3 tbsp of milk
7 oz of flour
1 1/2 tsp of baking powder
1 orange

Zest half of the orange, and press the whole orange.
Cream the soften butter with the sugar with the zest for a few minutes,
add the eggs one at a time, then the milk.
Mix the flour with the the baking powder together,
add half of it to the previous batter, then the orange juice,
and finally the rest of the flour.

Bake for around 20-25 minutes at 350.
Cool and decorate with a little powder sugar.

Over the years, I have made some more traditional king cakes for Epiphany:

Brioche

and of course la galette des rois:
(without almonds)

But I like to visit the local French baker
for a slice of the traditional one,
as I am the only one that can eat it!

(with a little donkey trinket)

Happy day!
