It is that magical time of the year.... where we can all embrace our inner geekiness!

Art: Clone Helmet by Miss C., present to her brother Brick Master  who has been passionate about Star Wars his whole life.
BB8 helmet also crafted by Miss C. has a costume, it all started with a beach ball and a lot of paper and glue.
My only addition: some Star Wars shape cookies, a tradition on this day. I seem to never have time to add the icing,,,

giant macaron

While macarons might be going out of style, we still are big fans here. We have baked macarons, I have sewed a macaron, and now Miss C. has crafted a macaron, and not a little one but a giant one!

She started with cereals boxes (everybody's favorite source of thin cardboard, that and of course soda boxes...) like she did for her mad hatter hat, and like Brick Master did for his conquistador helmet, the kids are just a crafty bunch....!
Then with tape, scraps of paper and glue, she shaped it all into a macaron. She painted it as a mint chocolate chip treat, I have never tried that flavor, but it sounds really good. As final touches, she added a mint leaf, and her initial, everything is better monogrammed!

I really enjoyed her creativity, on a small scale, it would have been fun, but on a large scale, it is quite powerful, I guess it is art now!

art in the snow

Yesterday was a no school day,
we had snow for the last couple of days,
the kids were tired, it was time to find a nice indoor activity: art!

A couple of weeks ago, I found this great tutorial from Art Projects for Kids to paint a night wintry scene.

We went to work (it took us a while to set up the masking tape)

and here are the results:

Miss C.'s version: 

she played on the forest darkness (lighter near the moon, darker farther away),

she also added the evening star. 

Brick Master's version:

those tree went through some sort of event,

they are broken and rough!

and finally my version:

I need to take some tips from my children!

It was great fun to do art all together,

we definitively need to do that more often!

Matisse and a tree

This week end we went downtown to enjoy some culture

and to participate to the Portrait story day at the National portrait gallery.

The artist of the day was Henri Matisse.

Miss C has a passion for art, she loves making it and looking at it,

and since school has been really hard for her lately,

we wanted to do something educational but not school related,

so to the museum we went.

We listened to a story about Matisse's life (for Children!)

looked at some of his work

and then worked on making our own version.

Of course it was about all of his cutout works, later in his life.

We all worked on making a Matisse inspired art piece,

here is what we made:

Miss C's, Mine, Mon Cheri's, Brick Master's,

a full family event!

It was perfect,

but it is a little far to make artwork every week!

So next weekend, instead of going to the museum,

we will try to do something similar: I will go to the library to find some story about an artist

and then we will try to make our own version of his artwork.

Watch out Picasso!

We also got a Christmas tree

and decorated it. 

it really started to look like Christmas around the house,

so little time left and so much sewing to do!
