a few bookmarks for summer reading

Summer is here, no more school,
no more homework...
Oh wait, scratch that, there is still summer reading....
Well it is more pleasure than homework!

To help everybody feels more engaged in their reading,
I made some cute fabric bookmarks,
mixing fabric, ribbon and stamping,
even faster than machine embroidery!

For Miss C., I made her two versions:

with stamped horses and charms,

it totally helps with the reading!
She finally decided to read Harry Potter,
and already more than halfway through the second one....

For Brick Master, I revisited the robotic collection that I used for
his rock climbing bag, but instead of blue,
I used the orange/black version.

just layers of fabric, no stamping or charms,
he does not need these things, of course!

And I also made one for myself in linen, my favorite!

I stamped the background and the old stamp,
and used a Hawaiian label from some Tim Holtz fabric,
the same one I used some my wet bags,
here and here.

Of course, now I dream of reading on the beach.....

a sweet little strawberry patchwork block

After working on a very modern quilt for Brick Master,
I felt the need to go back to some very classic patchwork.

And nothing beats playing with 1 1/2 inch squares.

I received this cute book "Farm Girl Vintage" for Mother's day,
and wanted to try a block, they are so many and they are quite easy.

The non easy part: finding more than 20 different pinks!
I think I will try again but with more red....
but it still turned out really cute:

I am not sure what I will do with my unripe strawberry.....

a modern quilt for a teen

It is almost the end of the school year, just one more week to go
before summer freedom!
So it is the perfect time for a school photoshoot...on the football field.

Brick Master does not play but enjoys going to the games with his friends.
And this quilt looks perfect there!
It was quite unintentional but black and orange are his school colors!

The pattern from this quilt is V and Co houndstooth.
It is supposed to be 2 colors, but I went with 4,
it is a little trickier but not much.

It is quite a bold and modern quilt, quite different from the ones I usually make,
but just right for my cool 16 year old almost junior!

I chose to only use fleece instead of batting and backing,
it is lighter but still quite warm.
I quilted it lightly as I did not want it to distract from the design.
It should hold up just fine as they are only 2 layers together.

I took a short cut with the binding by sewing it by machine, (I usually finished by hand....)
It turned out to be just fine, the corners are good on both sides,
I just stitched in the ditch all around
on the top side catching the binding on the back side.
I used black thread which is barely visible on the front.
Quick and very satisfying!

And of course, it is perfect in Brick Master updated bedroom during the One Room Challenge.

some more delicious macaron mug rugs

Surprised by the title?
Probably not if you have been around for a while,
or even just a short time,
I love making mug rugs
and even more giving them away!

My friends and family have received quite a few,
they get dirty and new ones are needed, of course.

Here are my latest edition:

 tea and biscuit...perfection!

I made them for my sister's first wedding anniversary,
it is good to celebrate every occasion!

And you might remember that she was quite insistent
to get some when I originally made some in January!

Linen and Liberty of London....

This time I did not use the same fabric, I shockingly use regular cotton!
The same sweet print that I used on my latest sewing basket.

The base is still linen, with a cute print for the back, no reason to not enjoy the back too!
And a little running stitch of embroidery thread.

I sent these 2 to my sister, but I could not help myself,
and made 2 extra ones....one for me
and one for a friend!

They are all the same, I just played with the various print.

Time for a drink, may be iced tea today as it is pretty warm,
still definitively with a biscuit or a cookie...
