a book of colors for a sweet baby

We are back from our family vacations,

where I was able to meet my new niece.

Since she was 6 months old,

it was time for me to make her a soft book:

I previously made books for my American niece and nephew:

 Baby K's book Part I and Part II

Baby S's book,

they were older at the time so for this one, I went with a simple concept: colors

I was inspired by these 2 tutorials from

EmmmyLizzzy and Homegrown Happy.

Each page has its own color,

I tried to find interesting fabric with animals or flowers.

Miss C. was in charge of color order, she is truly an artist,

I am merely a crafter!

I used squares on iron-on batting, and crazy quilted the different fabrics.

the book ended up a little thick so I had to hand stitch the cover to the pages.

This does not seem to bother her:

I managed to put some science in them.....

it is never too early to start!

She is a very happy baby ,

it was so much fun to hang out with her!

all the bebe cuteness together

Very late last year, we welcomed the birth of my niece:

Baby E (1 week old) on her quilt!

I might be partial but she is so cute ;)

Last fall I sewed for her a lot of cute little things,

beside the quilt.

My sister took a few pictures of her room just before her arrival,

and it looks perfect all together:

I will not meet Baby E until this summer,

but I receive a new picture everyday:

Until then, I can always create more cute things for her....

a oh so sweet baby quilt

Is there a better reason to make a quilt than a baby?

My upcoming niece was the perfect excuse to play with beautiful fabrics

in pretty color.

I mixed 7 different Liberty of London prints with about 12 solids,

following the pattern from Amy's book: Sweetly Stitched Handmades.

These prints are quite special as 2 of them are reprints of my sister's clothes!

It is a very simple quilt, perfect for a beginner, 

all straight seams, just rectangles.

The little linen bear looks especially snuggly with it.

For the back of the quilt, I used the same Provence fabric than I used for the Beary pillow,

it has just the right mix of blue and pink.

And of course the Bebe bunting is the perfect accessory:

a little bear to snuggle

Last time I wrote about the presents for my upcoming niece,

I shared a beary cute pillow,

which went really well the Bebe bunting I made.

Well I continued in the bear theme with this adorable little stuffed animal:

super, duper cute right?
It is barely stuffed, there are no buttons, everything is stitched, so it should be quite safe for a baby.
I followed this tutorial from Amy Sinibaldi (Nana's Company)
It is made of linen with gingham nose, it is hand stitched all around.
For the back I used another Liberty of London print, it cannot be helped, linen and Liberty are perfect with each other!

The little linen tag (the bear of ....) is just waiting for the name of its owner, it can be added with a sharpie instead of thread. And of course, there is more to come, remember the mouse and the cookie..... But I am still waiting for the Scandinavian customs  (it has already been a month) to release these presents to my sister, the baby will be here soon so I hope they hurry!

a beary cute pillow

You probably know the book: "if you gave a mouse a cookie",

well my bebe bunting was the cookie,

and I went down the rabbit hole....

and made more cute things like this pillow:

Beary cute, right?!

The pattern is from Amy's book: "Sweetly Stitched Handmades",

I have had the book for a while, but it was my first making something out of it.

The pillow is made of many Liberty of London prints,

some linen for the ears and snout and a little bit of chenille to make the ears softer!

The lace and hand stitching made the bear even cuter.

For the back I used one of the prints I brought back from Provence,

a very traditional print (une indienne), it has a good mix of pink and blue,

any girl favorite colors!

And of course, I kept on following the bunny down the hole....

a cute little bebe bunting with a tutorial

With the upcoming arrival of my latest niece,

I have been able to sew sweet little things

like this little bunting:

Since I do not know yet the name of the baby,

I chose to write just Bebe (french for baby as she will be)

and surrounded it by a bear and a bunny,

for good company!

I think it will make the perfect room decor for any nursery: linen, Liberty of London, lace, embroidery...

The embroidery pattern for the 2 faces is from "Sleepy time animal pals" from Nana Company.

My bunting is actually inspired by hers, from this blog post.

Here is how I made my little bunting:

I drew a simple shape for the pennant, similar to Amy's,

and cut 4 into different Liberty print and 4 into complementary solid,

and finally 4 (slightly smaller) into fusible fleece:

Then I typed Bebe into Picmonkey to get some nice alphabet,

traced the back side onto Wonder Under,

ironed it on the wrong side of solid fabric

and finally carefully cut out the letters!

(hint: start by the inside...)

I made each pennant the same way:

I ironed the fleece to the wrong side of the print,

with right side together (print/solid)

I sewed all around but for 2 inches on the top all around the pennant,

then trimmed the corners, turned it right side out

and finally ironed it flat.

Once all of them were ironed, I top-stitched the opening by machine,

the lace will cover that edge, so no need to hand stitch!

I ironed on each letter, then I machine stitched on the letter,

and finally hand stitched/quilted around each letter

as they were getting lost in the print!

I hand embroidered the bear and bunny on linen scrap,

then I cut the pieces to size, and make the pennants the same way,

but without the fleece, the linen is a lot heavier than the Liberty.

And finally I straight stitched the lace onto the pennants,
forming this delightful bunting:



I hope my sister likes it,
it is currently stuck in custom in some Scandinavia...
